After Paris we rode an overnight train to San Sebastian, Spain. Oddly enough, it was one of the better nights of sleep I´ve had over here (what does that tell you?). Now, the whole trip we have had the MOST PERFECT weather. Dublin and London, both dreary cities by nature, were sunny and warm. France was beautiful. So, naturally, San Sebastian was overcast and rainy for all but one hour that we were there.
We were determined to relax on the beach, however, and spent most of our day there watching the surfers take on some of the waves. We stayed at a great hostel and made friends with just about everyone staying there and went out on the town with all of them on Saturday night, making for our latest night out yet (In Spain they really do take siestas from about 2-4pm to prepare for their crazy nights. The places we went to were open until about 8am, and the streets were still packed when we walked home at 4am).
The next day we sat on the beach before climbing up a mountain with a statue of Jesus on top for an absolutely incredible view of the city and it´s surrounding mountains. As we went back down, the sun finally came out from between clouds and to celebrate the occasion we played in the ocean. Unfortunately we had to leave about an hour later so we had to say goodbye to the beautiful blue water and sit on a train for 6 hours with sand in our clothes. This was tempered by the fact that the Spanish countryside is actually one of the most beautiful things I´ve seen on the trip so far. All 6 hours I just wanted to look out the window.
