Our first non-English speaking country! I was very apprehensive about coming here, and wasnt even really looking forward to it, but this place is just so charming! I know we all hear about the snobby French people, but everyone we have met here has just been so nice and helpful. Our host family, the parents and brother and sister of our friend Alex from school, is SO great and it`s good to have a native Parisian giving you tips. Im having a ton of fun with the language barrier, and it seems that as long as you`re giving French a real shot when asking for help, people are very responsive. Both Megan and Kristen took French in High School, so we are managing pretty well.
Im running low on time on this computer (still in the cafè) so here`s an overview of our first day here:
We saw the Luxembourg Palace, which we learned about in school. It looks the same as in the pictures. We went to th outside of Notre Dame, but decided to go in later for Vespers. We visited the Conciergere, where they locked up Marie Antionette as well as many other prisoners. Next to the Conciergere was Sainte-Chapelle, and absolutely INCREDIBLE church meant originally for royalty. It used to house several sacred relics, including a piece of the true cross and the crown of thorns. It has stained glass windows that depict the entire Bible from Genesis to the resurrection of Christ, and they were awe-inspiring.
